E – Earth Day on 22nd April
The annual earth day event will be celebrated on 22nd April this year. It is one of those events which gives us a chance to support the environmental protection through simple things such as putting the light off at home or in a society at the same time. celebrated in more than 192 countries each year, this event has definitely had some impact on the lives of people.
The overwhelming response received for earth day as made many governments and people to take notice and do something for preserving our environments. With environmental disasters looming head high, if we do not act today, then our future is definitely going to end soon. Many corporates are doing their part by building more green friendly buildings and going for certifications that certify them as green building. Also in some places the usage of paper has been reduced while in other places recycled paper, water etc is being used more frequently.
The official theme of Earth Day 2014 is to promote the concept of Green Cities. The campaign main aim is to help cities around the world reduce their carbon footprint. The massive global migration from small towns/villages to cities means all governments/municipal council need to invest heavily in energy, water, materials, waste, food distribution, and transportation over the coming years. If the right decisions are made now, this opportunity can prove as an catalyst of change in the environment and the fight against carbon emissions and climate change.
The earth day 2014 is focused on three key elements — buildings, energy, and transportation — the campaign aims to help cities accelerate their transition to a cleaner, healthier, and more economically viable future through improvements in efficiency, investments in renewable technology, and regulation reform.
